May be you once had a tight, "washboard" abdomen,
but ever since your last pregnancy you just can't get
your old shape back. Or maybe you've always had a soft,
prominent "belly" that you could only dream
would go away. Loose or sagging abdominal wall skin
is frequently associated with abnormal relaxation of
the anterior abdominal wall muscles. It is not possible
to tighten abdominal wall skin with exercise alone.Fortunately,
a procedure known as an abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck,
can remove excess folds of skin and tighten your abdominal
muscles to create a lean, flat, and better defined abdomen.
Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck, can remove excess folds
of skin and tighten your abdominal muscles to create
a lean, flat, and better defined abdomen. In a tummy
tuck, a "bikini line" incision is made, excess
skin and fat are removed, and your abdominal muscles
are tightened to flatten out the bulge. If your abdominal
fullness and loose skin are confined to the area below
the belly button, you may be a candidate for a "mini"
abdominoplasty, which has a shorter incision and limits
the tightening to the lower abdomen. However, if the
fullness and skin laxity involve your entire abdomen,
then you would likely need a full abdominoplasty to
get the best result. After a tummy tuck, a compression
garment or a girdle is worn for 4 - 6 weeks as normal
activities are gradually resumed. Heavy lifting or any
other activity which would strain the abdominal muscles
repaired by a tummy tuck is restricted for 6 weeks.
Dr. Kalra has used his personal technique of abdominoplasty
(tummy tuck) to give many women a flat, sculpted, and
more athletic appearing abdomen. It is a very safe and
predictable technique, and it has become one of our
most popular procedures.
Intended Result:
Procedure
is performed under general anesthesia. An overnight
stay is usual for a standard abdominoplasty. (Mini-abdominoplasties
may be performed as an outpatient procedure.)
But overnight stay after general anaesthesia is
preferred.
Mini-abdominoplasty tightens the lower abdominal
wall skin (below the "belly-button")
only. Standard abdominoplasty tightens all of
the abdominal wall skin and muscles.
Additional
Procedures that may Enhance the Result:
Liposuction
Breast procedures

The patient goes home with an abdominal binder,
which will need to be worn for two months. Initial
discomfort is easily controlled with oral medication
which is taken for 7 to 10 days. Sutures are removed
in stages between day 7 and day 14 after surgery.
Bruising and swelling decrease in 10-14 days,
but can last 2-3 WKS
The
specific risks and the suitability of this procedure
for a given individual can be determined only
at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures
have some degree of risk. Minor complications
that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally.
Major complications are rare.
